CarbonHans & deBotech Set Their Sites on Gold…….
CarbonHans and his deBotech Team along with some of their good friends at Machintek worked with the design group of BMW and BMW’s Designwork’s Engineer, Michael Scully, to use their vehicle technology and engineering to create tools that will help improve athlete performance. They collaborated with the USA Bobsled & Skeleton Federation to redesign Team USA’s two-man bobsled. It’s constructed with lightweight carbon fiber from deBotech
and through these efforts, BMW hopes to help drive Team USA to their first Olympic Gold medal in the event since 1936.
The deBotech Team also assisted in the development of the 4-Man Bobsled for the upcoming 2014 Olympics for the Bodyne Team. Utlizing the experience of some Olympic Veterans like Bob Cuneo and Cheech Garde along with the extensive knowledge and production capabilities of deBotech, they were able to produce a super light-weight and fast sled.
The USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation have been long time friends of deBotech since their first endeavor in the Olympics in 2002 and continue to be today. deBotech along with Grant Shaffner, a designer for the USA Skeleton Team, have also developed new technology that is being used in the USA Skeleton Team to utilize their light-weight materials to result in some fast times. CarbonHans got to witness some of the previous carbon designs in action in 2012 in Lake Placid with Katie U. and Anne O. racing for the USA and taking home Gold!
All are in testing right now but stay posted to get updates on the progress of our USA teams.
deBotech is a proud sponsor of our USA Olympic Teams and truly wishes all of the athletes, their families and the companies that support them the best of luck in the upcoming season of preparation and is honored to be part of such a great endeavor for our country.
As per John Kekis, March 26…….. “New 4-Man Bobsled Could Save USA Team”
“US Bobsled Star, Steve Holcomb, finally has something to smile about – a brand-new, four-man sled with gobs of carbon fiber, state of the suspension,
and updated steering.
Holcomb, the reigning Olympic champion in 4-man, tested Night Train 2 for four days last week at Lake Placid and says it has a lot of potential.
Holcomb’s back on the ice this week testing a new two-man sled produced by automaker BMW. He says it’s solid too, and thinks its good enough to take
into production.
That’s good news for a team that has watched its equipment fall into a state of disrepair….”
deBotech Grants Some Wishes……………………..
Hans and Jamye deBot had the pleasure of donating 4 9th Row tickets for the Justin Bieber concert to some wonderful young ladies. When asked why they decided to do this instead of selling these amazing tickets, according to Jamye, “The answer is simple. We wanted to do something for these young girls that may not have had the opportunity otherwise. We sincerely hope that they have a wonderful time!” Bob and Heather Lutz, the owners of NASCAR Racing Experience @ www.nascarracingexperience.com/ also donated 2 9th Row tickets granting the wishes of 2 more girls. Hans and Jamye presented the tickets to Ms. Jessica Moore, the Development Manager of Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina. Check out their website @ http://www.ncwish.org and learn how you can “Share the Power of A Wish”.

I would like to say “Thanks” for saying Thanks:
A couple of days ago I was summoned to one of my customer’s offices – they wanted to see me face-to-face. My heart immediately dropped, thinking what could have gone wrong… When I arrived, I was told they wanted to meet me man-to-man to say “Thank You”…. What, who does this anymore in this cut-throat world we live in. It meant the world to me and it inspired me to pass it along. I would like to say “Thanks” to Danny @ Stewart-Haas for the nice champagne and the pat on the back that he gave me and deBotech, Inc….. I would also like to thank all of our loyal and new customers that always inspire us to do our best with their challenging and exciting projects… I would like to say “thanks” to all of our vendors for supplying us with superior products on-time with little lead time sometimes… I would like to say “thanks” to all of the deBotech Family that dig hard each and every day to build the best carbon fiber products in the industry. So remember to say thanks although it is a forgotten word. Thanks for reading.
Light and Strong…..
Light and strong = the requirements for a toothpick bridge project assigned to CarbonHans’ daughter = NO problem!!! The requirements stated that the bridge could not have more than 500 toothpicks and the goal was to have a competition to see who’s bridge could hold the most weight and take them to failure. Out of 30 bridges, 3 held approx. 42 lbs. and then collapsed BUT CarbonHans’ bridge held 3 baskets full of golf balls, books, sand, anything the teacher could find but in the end the bridge won. After 3 strings broke and then the pencil failed the teacher conceded. CarbonHans’s bridge weighed 53 grams using only 300 toothpicks and held 55 lbs. and could have taken more. Next project, Light and Fast = No Problem!!!!

More from CarbonHans’ and The National Defense Magazine
Auto parts manufacturers in North Carolina that usually spend their time catering to NASCAR are now teaming up with the Army’s Special Operations Command to make commandos’ vehicles faster, lighter, safer, and more efficient. Check out the following link to read more about how and why.

“Something as simple as replacing the steel panels on vehicles with composites such as carbon fiber could reduce the vehicle’s weight by up to 70 percent”, according to Hans deBot, president of deBotech Inc., “making it quicker and more maneuverable”.

CarbonHans’ interview with National Defense Magazine/ October 2011 Issue.
deBotech, Inc. continues to support the economic development and growth in North Carolina
“North Carolina is on the right track to try to solve the issues at hand,” said deBot. “That’s what these people are trying to do — bring these companies and big military and defense contractors to a realization that they’re tapping into a resource that can really bring them to the next level.”
“All we now need is just the opportunities and we’ll shine like a new penny,” deBot said.

10 New Cars That Are Worth Waiting For
By Michael Frank | Popular Mechanics – Thu, Jul 28, 2011 4:31 PM EDT
Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (January 2012)
A hot Camaro is coming and will be powered by the Cadillac CTS-V‘s 6.2-liter V8 with roughly 550 hp. Given how the Camaro SS with a 6.2-liter V8 that puts out a mere 426 hp can already clock a 0-to-60-mph sprint in less than 5 seconds, the ZL1 is going to be scary fast. This Camaro will go toe-to-toe with Ford’s Shelby GT500—and BMW M3 and Porsche 911 owners should watch their rearviews too. Price? We’d guess between $42,000 and $48,000.
